Production Capacity and Export Trend of Dimethyl Disulfide in China Market

Dimethyl disulfide (DMDS), as an important organic sulfur compound, plays an integral part in global petrochemical, pesticide, pharmaceutical and other industries. China's production and export situation for DMDS have garnered much interest as an integral player on the world chemical market.

China's DMDS production capacity has seen steady expansion over the years. By 2023, national production will reach around 120,000 tons with actual output estimated at 95,000 due to growing or merging businesses as well as newcomers entering the industry. Production technology-wise, traditional dimethyl sulfate methods have gradually been phased out due to raw material toxicity issues and environmental considerations; their place has been taken by more efficient methyl mercaptan sulfidation techniques which offer higher purity with lower pollution rates as well as improved efficiency compared to traditional dimethyl sulfate production methods.

China's export trends for DMDS since 2000 have shown consistent upward trends; though their volume decreased slightly during 2020 due to an epidemic-induced decrease, totaling approximately 18,000 tons exported. Since global economic recovery took hold however, export volumes rebounded quickly with 22,000 tons exported in 2021, 25.000 in 2022, and over 30,000 by 2024 due to market demand and exchange rate fluctuations. Exports have seen strong gains due to increasing demand in petrochemical, pesticide and pharmaceutical industries as well as due to depreciation of RMB enhancing international price competitiveness of products exported to Asia-Pacific regions. South Korea, Japan and India are the main importers. South Korea imports around 8,000 tons annually primarily for high-end chemical and semiconductor production; Chinese products also hold some share in these markets despite stringent standards.

China's DMDS production capacity is projected to expand substantially over time and reach 150,000 tons by 2027, as its export prospects improve alongside global chemical industry development and emerging economy demand growth. Companies face numerous obstacles like stricter international environmental regulations and trade barriers which must be managed carefully so as to promote sustainable industry growth while improving product quality, optimizing production processes and strengthening market research efforts.
