2Mercaptoethanol MSDS

Brief description of thiol ethanol material safety data table
1. Identification
Chinese name: 2 - thiol ethanol
English name: 2 - Mercaptoethanol
2. Physical and chemical properties
Appearance and properties: Colorless and transparent liquid, with a special odor.
Melting point (℃): -100
Boiling point (℃): 157 - 158
Relative density (water = 1): 1.1143
Solubility: miscible with water, miscible in most organic solvents such as alcohols and ethers.
3. Overview of hazards
Health hazards: Harmful to the body after inhalation, ingestion or absorption through the skin. It has a severe irritating effect on the eyes, skin, mucous membranes and upper respiratory tract. Can cause headache, nausea, vomiting, laryngitis, shortness of breath, etc.
Danger of explosion: This product is flammable and highly irritating.
IV. First aid measures
Skin contact: Immediately remove contaminated clothing and rinse with plenty of flowing water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention.
Eye contact: Immediately lift the eyelids and rinse thoroughly with plenty of flowing water or normal saline for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention.
Inhalation: Quickly leave the scene to a fresh place of air. Keep the respiratory tract unobstructed. If breathing difficulties, give oxygen. If breathing stops, give artificial respiration immediately. Seek medical attention.
Ingestion: Rinse your mouth with water and give milk or egg white. Seek medical attention.
5. Firefighting measures
Hazardous characteristics: Its vapor and air can form an explosive mixture, which can cause combustion and explosion in case of open flame and high heat energy. It can react strongly with oxidants. Its vapor is heavier than air and can spread to a considerable distance at a lower place. In case of fire, it will catch fire and backfire.
Harmful combustion products: carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, sulfur oxide.
Fire extinguishing method: Move the container from the fire field to an open place as much as possible. Spray water to keep the fire field container cool until the fire is over. If the container in the fire field has changed color or produced sound from the safety pressure relief device, it must be evacuated immediately. Fire extinguishing agent: anti-soluble foam, carbon dioxide, dry powder, sand.
6. Emergency treatment for leaks
Emergency treatment: Quickly evacuate personnel from the leaked contaminated area to a safe area, and quarantine them, strictly restricting access. Cut off fire sources. It is recommended that emergency personnel wear self-contained positive pressure breathing apparatus and anti-toxic clothing. Do not directly contact leaks. Cut off the source of leaks as much as possible. Prevent flowing into restricted spaces such as sewers and drainage ditches. Small leaks: Adsorption or absorption with sand or other non-combustible materials. It can also be rinsed with a large amount of water, diluted with washing water and placed in the wastewater system. Large leaks: Construct embankments or dig pits for containment. Cover with foam to reduce steam disasters. Use explosion-proof pumps to transfer to tankers or special collectors, recycle or transport to waste disposal sites for disposal.
7. Operation Disposal and Storage
Operation Precautions: Closed operation, full ventilation. Operators must undergo special training and strictly abide by the operating procedures. It is recommended that operators wear self-priming filter gas masks (full masks), tape gas suits, and rubber gloves. Keep away from fires and heat sources. Smoking is strictly prohibited in the workplace. Use explosion-proof ventilation systems and equipment. Prevent steam from leaking into the air of the workplace. Avoid contact with oxidants, acids, and alkali metals. When handling, pack and unload lightly to prevent damage to packaging and containers. Equip with corresponding varieties and quantities of fire-fighting equipment and leakage emergency treatment equipment. Harmful substances may remain in emptied containers.
Storage Precautions: Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat sources. The storage temperature should not exceed 30 ° C. Keep the container sealed. It should be stored separately from oxidants, acids, and alkali metals. Do not mix storage. Use explosion-proof lighting and ventilation facilities. It is forbidden to use mechanical equipment and tools that are prone to generating sparks. The storage area should be equipped with leakage emergency treatment equipment and suitable containment materials.
VIII. Contact Control/Personal Protection
Occupational Exposure Limits
China MAC (mg/m ³): No Standard
Former Soviet Union MAC (mg/m ³): 1
TLVTN: OSHA 10ppm, 35mg/m ³
TLVWN: ACGIH 15ppm, 53mg/m ³
Monitoring Method: Gas Chromatography
Engineering Control: Closed operation, full ventilation. Safe shower and eye wash equipment are provided.
Respiratory Protection: When possible exposure to its vapors, a self-priming filter gas mask (full mask) should be worn. In emergency rescue or evacuation, it is recommended to wear an air respirator.
Eye Protection: Protection has been made in respiratory protection.
Body Protection: Wear Tape Antivirus Clothing.
Hand Protection: Wear Rubber Gloves.
Other Protection: Smoking, Eating and Drinking are prohibited at the work site. After work, shower and change clothes. Pay attention to personal cleanliness and hygiene. Have regular medical checkups.
